How beneficial would it be to run a course that not only enriches the English of the students attending, but also benefits students throughout the school? Students are taught games and activities that they can run during lunch breaks, Open Days, English Days and after school. This course can improves students’ fluency and vocabulary, and also develop their sense of confidence and responsibility.

This career-related experience can have students producing and publishing periodic newspapers that can be shared with school staff and students. The experience enhances students’ writing skills, critical thinking skills and overall communication skills as they work in groups and independently to meet deadlines and goals.

What would it take for you to flee your country and leave your home behind? Can you imagine how it feels to be on the run and seek refuge in a country and culture which is very different from your own?

These questions and more are explored as we raise students’ awareness on the plight of refugees and asylum seekers. Global and local issues can be introduced and students can brainstorm ideas on what they can do. The course can include a visit from a registered charitable organization and various community work options.
